January 17th – CHILE – Those who do not dance

forever-youngOn the thread of award winners we move to the Nobel Prize for Literature and the poet Gabriela Mistral and her poem Those who do not dance. The children identified immediately with the topic from two books we have read numerous times, Dreamwalking by South African author Bettine Schouw and Giraffes can’t dance by London’s Giles Andreae. We love the idea of finding our own unique way of expressing ourselves, of working through our differences and celebrating our own unique personal set of skills, gifts and talents. Though this picture only deals with one element of the multi-layered poem I thought it was a bit of fun to include. Researching Gabriela has also piqued our interest in her own unique and quite remarkable life and we will definitely be looking out for a biography for reading next year.
