From the rainforests of Ecuador to remote little pieces of land making up the frozen but exquisite archipelago of South Georgia and Sandwich Islands. As there is no permanent population, we have chosen to read about the islands role in the famous 1914-17 Shackleton expedition. It is told by the Captain of the Endurance, Frank Worsley. As a result it is a meaningful, moving and personal recounting. This is an inspiring children’s story but this particular account is quite heavy going for them. We are going to follow it up with the 2000 movie inspired by the story. We are also on the look out for a copy of Nan Brown’s Antarctic Housewife.
