February 5th – VENEZUELA – The streets are free

From one book of a young boy’s ability to be brave and grow into his situation to another book of children effecting change in their city. We enjoyed Kurusa’s book based on a true story which resonates with our city life here in Johannesburg where we have African versions of “barrios”. Interesting discussions followed about urbanisation, globalisation, population and the like. It also reminded us of Virginia Lee Burton’s Little House – unfortunately for the children of Caracas they could not be moved back into the countryside and so they worked a miracle where they were.  Fabulous.
